We celebrated the completion of the Pride in Our Past, Building our Future Capital Campaign projects with a ribbon cutting and blessing of the Regina Early Childhood Center on August 17, 2022. We are grateful to the many capital campaign donors who made the expansion, renovation and upgrades of the Early Childhood Center possible.
Early Childhood Center renovations are now underway
March 2022
The renovation of and upgrades to the Early Childhood Center at Regina Catholic Education Center are underway. As a result of supply chain challenges, escalating construction costs, and inflation, the original design for the project has been modified but remains in line with the original intent without sacrificing the original footprint. School administrators, preschool staff, Shive-Hattery Architecture + Engineering and Build to Suit Construction collaborated to scale the project, without compromising the integrity of the design. The vision for this center remains strong and the commitment to our youngest learners is intact. We are grateful to the many donors for their generous support of this important project of the capital campaign. The project is scheduled for completion around July 15.
Regina announces expansion of Early Childhood Center as final phase of capital campaign
April 2021
The Regina Catholic Education Center is excited to share construction plans to renovate and expand the Early Childhood Center for the final phase of the Pride in Our Past, Building Our Future Capital Campaign.
The Early Childhood Center will be re-located in the former 6th grade elementary wing of the campus and features 10,500 square feet of renovations and new construction. This will include a dedicated entry, secure entrance and exit points, five modernized classrooms, new bathrooms, a reception area, offices, wellness space, a teacher work and prep room, and a large indoor play center with access to the outdoor certified Nature Explore Classroom.
“The goal of the Pre-K project is to better serve current enrollment needs and to increase enrollment in the Pre-K program going forward,” said Regina Elementary Principal, Celeste Vincent. “This program plays a vital role in introducing families to our Center and the supportive faith-filled Regina community.”
Initial allocation for the Early Childhood Center facilities was $500,000. Thanks to a new dedicated donation of $1.2 million, the project has been expanded to enhance the planned renovations and updates.
Since launching the campaign in 2016, Regina has raised more than $9.1 million, exceeding the $7.8 million capital campaign goal.
“The Lord has blessed us richly with this incredible opportunity to expand and enrich our Early Childhood Center facilities,” shared Barbara Meyer, Regina Early Childhood Center Director. “This exciting expansion will allow for growth and prosperity, in both physical space and the number of families we serve. The future of Regina will continue to shine bright for our students, families, faculty/staff, parishes, and the greater Iowa City community with the enhancement of our Center.”
The project team for the Early Childhood Center project includes Shive Hattery Architecture & Engineering, Build To Suit, and Brandt Heating & Air Conditioning. Work is scheduled to begin in spring 2022 with completion by fall 2022.
Congratulations! We did it!
August 2020
We are excited to announce that we exceeded our capital campaign goal of $7.8 million with a new campaign total of $7,952,000.
Our thanks to Capital Campaign Co-Chairs, Matt Pacha and Jason Dumont, and Campaign Cabinet members who worked tirelessly over the past several years to spearhead a successful campaign. We would also like to thank the project team, Regina Board of Education and administration, and the 607 generous business and personal donors who helped to make this vision a reality for our Regina students!
The exciting next step for Regina will be converting the newly-freed-up space in the original structure into an expanded early childhood education center. Currently, pre-kindergarten classrooms are in two separate locations in the school. Having all early childhood education classrooms in the same hallway will allow for more cohesive theming and programming. Renderings and elevations are currently in progress. Stay tuned for updates and construction timeline.
